Larry McGill, Jr., School Leader
Larry McGill, Jr., a Phoenix resident, is the school leader of South Pointe High School in South-Central Phoenix, a tuition-free Leona Group public charter school. Mr. McGill has served as school leader since South Pointe’s inception in 2003. Prior to assuming the role of school leader at South Pointe, Mr. McGill served as the school leader for three years at Leona's Desert Hills High School located in Gilbert, Arizona. Before that, he held the position of assistant school leader at Summit High School, another Leona sister school. Mr. McGill holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Ottawa University and is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and has been involved in education since 1995. Mr. McGill has been a member of The Leona Group family since 1999. In 2016, Larry McGill Jr. was nominated by the Arizona African American Legislative Committee to receive the Unsung Hero for Education Award. Mr. McGill is an admirable role model to many in South-Central Phoenix and because of his many achievements in education the State of Arizona Senate Proclamation designated March 9, 2016 as “Larry McGill Jr. Day”.

Phuong Mai Pham, Curriculum Coach
Phuong Mai Pham is currently South Pointe High School's Curriculum & Instruction Coach. Her expertise is in working with students from the urban school systems. This will be her 11th official year in education: 6 years teaching middle and high school math(along with dance & sociology) and 4 years as an administrator overseeing instruction & curriculum. Ms. Pham is extremely passionate about closing the achievement gap and is extremely proud and grateful to have the opportunity to serve the South Phoenix community. Previous to SPHS, she taught in South Phoenix for 3 years and believes that this is where she truly belongs as an educator.
"I am a firm believer that every student is able to learn and to be successful if given the correct tools, resources, and support. All students deserve a quality education despite their background; my role is to challenge & push our teachers and students to be the best they can be everyday."

Kendra Gaines, Curriculum Coach
Kendra Gaines is one of the Curriculum Coaches at South Pointe High School. Ms. Gaines is a graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education. She has been in the education field for 11 years, seven of which were teaching high school English and four as an administrator. Ms. Gaines is passionate about helping the youth in the Phoenix community and strives to ensure that all students are given equitable opportunities for success.
