School Leader, Mr. Larry McGill Jr. was recognized in front of the Arizona Senate body with a proclamation on behalf of Senator Catherine Miranda (D-LD 27). This recognition was to acknowledge Mr. McGill's "Unsung Hero Award" that was presented to him by the Arizona Commission on African American Affairs as a pillar to education in the community. The texts for the proclamation reads as follows:
Whereas Larry McGill Jr. is a school leader of South Pointe High School in South-Central Phoenix; Whereas Larry McGill has served as a school leader since South Pointe’s inception in 2003; Whereas Larry McGill’s degree in psychology from Ottawa University has allowed him to have a deep impact on South Phoenix’s youth through his work as a guidance counselor and as a dropout prevention specialist at Maryvale High School and Genesis Academy; Whereas Larry McGill is a current member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals; Whereas Larry McGill serves as a leader of a highly-qualified faculty and staff with which he creates a risk-free learning environment and open lines of communication between the families and staff of South Pointe High school; Whereas the Commission on African American Affairs has presented him with the Unsung Hero Award for his service to education as a pillar of his community; Whereas Larry McGill is an admirable role model to many in South-Central Phoenix; Now, therefore be it resolved that Monday, March 14, 2016 is designated as “Larry McGill Jr. Day”.
